The spirit of Rock 'n Roll is in the air, and has been given Martin Endl the strength of Little Richard, the flash of Jimi Hendrix, and the handsome looks of Keith Richards! After a sometime leave of absence due to illness, Martin has been able to participate on stage!
At first, he sang "Give Me an Answer" at the Rockover Fest in Hradesin in the beginning of August. "Give Me an Answer" is Martin's signature tune and has women howling with lust. Local newspapers have reported a number ladies were taken to hospital due to overexposure and hot flushes! On a later date, he sang the same tune at the festival Stodola Michala Tucneho in Hostice; again a number of women needed to be taken away in an ambulance. Martin apologizes for any inconvenience he may have caused to husbands across the Czech Republic.

In September, Michal Cerman organized very pleasant event in Lucerna Music Bar in Prague. It was the birthday concert of southern-rock band General Lee - celebrating 25 years on the road! The group had a hiatus a few years back, but reunited for this special occasion, and The Cell had the opportunity to support this great event!
Martin came to Lucerna only sing Give Me An Answer, but he felt so well and the strength of Rock 'n Roll had truly returned to him; the band played the whole set with the two Martins playing side-by-side. As we really enjoyed playing with three guitars, we have decided to ask Martin Skoda to join us as a permanent guest for to play with the Cell when he has time. Martin leads a heavy musical life with two other bands: Mr. Skoda, you are great and we are pleased to have you on board!
Naturally the whole band are wishing Martin Endl a full and speedy recovery. Come on back Marty, we need you to Rock ON!!!

In March, our guitarist Martin took a serious illness and wasn't able to play for a long time. Luckily he had a good woman at home to keep him company, and had been able to help out the band with various issues, like the news for example :-)
As a temporary stand-in, the band engaged another Martin - the guitar player Martin Skoda from the band Full House in Mlada Boleslav. Not only is he a great musician, but also good friend of ours! Welcome on board Martin!
He took his part like a southern duck to water; thanks to him the band didn't have to cancel a single concert. Martin Skoda was a logical choice because we always had a mutual respect, but mostly he just plain rocks! Rock on!

In February, our new singer Michaela Jonczyova came to the band as a replacement for Radka Vojackova, who has had to to leave due to family reasons. We wish Radka all the best!
Although she looks a very tiny and fragile girl, Michaela's strong voice is able to shatter windows and make a bearded biker weep for his mommy!
Though she has a Polish surname she doesn't speak "po polski", so the only Polish speaking member of the group is our manager Basia.
We found Michaela quite incidentally in the club Hudebni bazar in Ostrava, where she was singing with her band MooF, at a battle of the bands. We were literally enraptured by her talents! Fearing a dreadful hangover in the morning from all the cheerful drinking, we speared her like a fish in a bucket! She was accepted after few rehearsals as a result of her excellent singing skills!

"Get your kicks on Route 66.."
In the second-half of February, the band went on a short tour including three gigs in the Czech Republic and one in Germany. We played our first gig for fans of the famous Route 66. This event took place in Stod (near Pilsen) in an american-style pub. Our dinner that night was also American in style and we watered it down with Pilsner beer. Thank God that Budweiser and Bud Light beers are not served here. Traditional Pilzner drinkers would not take it seriously.

Grüßgott aus Bayern..
In the Bavarian Forest there is a little town called Frauenau. We played there, in a club called Gistl; our concert was on the last day of the Bavarian Carnival. The cheery natives turned up in masks and didn't want us to leave the stage even after a 3-hour show! In Bavaria, the success of each gig is measured by number of "Zugabe" (encores). Played 4 more songs and then the club owner invited us to drink his home-made Bärwurz. If you haven't drank this liquor so far, don't do it! This "Schnaps" is made only for tourists and the natives never drink it. They surely know why

Theatre "Pod carou" in Pisek was the next stop on our way. We had a long sight-seeing tour in the town centre since Joseph refused to turn his GPS on! He declared that he knows the locale very well. The former theatre was rebuilt into a very nice rock club where numerous interesting events take place. This venue also welcomed legendary bluesman Johnny Winter. You can see some photos of our gig in our gallery section.

We finished our tour in Ceske Petrovice in Orlicke Hory (the Eagle Mountains). The last gig took place in the log-house colony called Haida. The stage area was quite small, but we proved again that our band can fit anywhere. There was great atmosphere in the log-house so that we played several encores, as well as a blues improvisation in the end of the show. The next day we did some skiing. It was very pleasant to meet some people from the last evening out on the ski slope!

We had our second gig with the new frontman David Kangas at the Stetson & Bourbon festival in Otrokovice. Our Yank took on our southern music with real northern balls!  It isn’t easy to take over somebody's role in the band, especially the lead vocal and main face of the whole group. At the end, we were satisfied; David was accepted by our hard-core fans with respect and excitement!
We are looking forward to the festival in Kolin ............ North against South!!

David is gone, long live David!
The Cell has a new front-man - singer and saxophone player David Wiljo Kangas from Boston, Massachusetts. He joined our band at the start of September and has already managed to perform at our gig in Velke Losiny! The name David seems to be stuck with us after all!

David Gore is leaving The Cell.. After a gruelling 7-year term, he has finally been released to freedom. The group would like to thank him for his great contribution over the years and we wish him the very best of luck, should he choose to continue a career of criminal activity in the future. As far as we are aware, he is putting together a new team of crackpot henchmen to continue his legacy of wicked ways, deep in the north of the Czech Republic.
Meanwhile, fans of The Cell can look forward to the new a front-man. Our new cellmate has recently been bumped-up from a maximum security unit, and is being escorted under armoured guard directly into our cell as this goes to press. Keep visiting our website for further information.
Lastly, here are a few of David's farewell words:
"I wish everyone in the group all the best for the future. They are all great musicians, as well as great people, and deserve to achieve higher and higher levels of success. My time with The Cell was some of the best times of my life, both personally and musically, and I will really miss playing with them. But life has all sorts of twists and turns which lead us down different paths. When one door closes, another opens and I believe that in the end this will work out to be a positive thing for both of us." David
